TORONTO

Toronto, Canada's largest city (population about 3.9 million), is spread over the coastal plain of Lake Ontario, where old and modern water and overland ways intersect, tending to the Great Lakes. The very name of the city on the local Indian language means "meeting place".

Toronto is the most Americanized Canadian city, a major business and industrial center. It has characteristic straight street network. The old part of the city, Downtown, located at the side of the lake, in 60-80s was built up with skyscraper, where the leading Canadian corporations and banks are situated. The narrow street Bay-street passing in the center of the area is known as the "Canadian" Wall Street. Here is situated the highest 72-floor skyscraper in Canada. From Bay-street you can see a silhouette of "CN-Tower" - the world's highest television tower (553 meters), built in 1975, and became a symbol of architectural Toronto. From the tower opens a wide view of the city and its outskirts. In fair weather it's possible to see even Niagara Falls and the American city of Buffalo, located at a distance of about 120 km from Toronto. Unlike many large American cities, in the heart of Toronto there is no slum.

The city has a sufficient system of public transport, trams and subway. Most of other areas of Toronto have low land. Toronto is the leading cultural center of English-speaking Canada. There is the dramatic theater, the National Ballet, the National Opera, Art Center, Conservatory, the Royal Ontario Museum, and others.

If you want to get pleasure from the entertainment and cultural events in Toronto, then you'll be in the centre of events staying at the Hotel Radisson Toronto East. It is close to CN Tower, Air-Canada Center, Ontario Science Center, Canada Paramount Entertainment Center, Toronto Zoo, village of Black Creek founders, Fairview Shopping Center and the City Center 'Scarborough'.
